Casey |
Casey is the owner of The Original Ornament. She started beading as a kid when her sister went away to college. She had a part time job at the local bead store; her sister now claims to have started it all! Having grown up in Wilmington, North Carolina she is happy to be so close to her family. Casey worked part time at The Original Ornament while in school at UNC studying Anthropology. She graduated in 2000 and in December, she partnered with Rebecca purchasing ½ of the business. Between 2001 and 2003 she bought a house, moved out to Hillsborough, and purchased the other half of the business. She lives quietly below large oaks in her own animal kingdom: Venus, Serena, Rudy Que, Clementine, Gidgo and Dadu.

Sidra |
Sidra Grove hails from the lower half of Ohio, but has lived in North Carolina, most specifically Carrboro, for the greater part of eleven years. She has a fondness for sparkly, shiny things owing to her having been raised by magpies. It is, then, unsurprising that she would choose to work with beads and be absolutley obsessed with the art of it. In addition to her love for little teeny shiny sparkly things, she also enjoys drawing, reading lots and lots of books, obsessing over the ongoing plotlines of Harry Potter and Lost, and writing fictional autobiographies of herself in the third person. (She wasn't really raised by magpies, see. It was actually wolves, which is why she never tucks her shirt in.) |

I was raised in the
Charming Jamestown, NC until coming to UNC in 2005. I am a teaching fellow
and I also play lacrosse on the UNC Club Team. I hope to major in history
and teach high school somewhere in NC. I worked at Michaels Arts and Crafts
for 3 years in Greensboro and it was there that I discovered my love for
all things fun and crafty. After moving to the lovely Carrboro I decided
it was time to find another job and The Original Ornament had "me"
written all over it! I am excited to be joining the Carr Mill family for
my latest employment adventure! |

Madeline |
|
Madeline is a senior at Carolina Friends School in Durham. The
Original Ornament is her first job, and she can't think of a place she'd
rather work. In her free time, Madeline enjoys playing ultimate
frisbee, social and environmental activism, and going on picnics.
Madeline can be found at the store on weekends between writing papers
about philosophy and bottle-feeding her foster kittens. |

Laura |
Laura is a senior psychology major at UNC with aspirations
of becoming a clinical psychologist specializing in couples' therapy.
She was raised by Yankee parents in the Containment Area for Relocated
Yankees (also called Cary), just 30 minutes down the road. You can spot
Laura rolling on the floor to dodge invisible bullets or lip-syncing to
Etta James with a pair of pliers as her microphone. But try not to be
misled by her predominantly pink wardrobe—Laura is ultimately just
a tomboy in high heels who appreciates the finer things in life…beads.
